Database Backup and Restore

HOW TO BACKUP AND RESTORE DATABASE

 

Database backup is one of the preventive measure that most of the enterprises and business do in case of a sudden system failure, data corruptions due to virus attacks and loss of data due to power interruptions.

 

To do manual backup, QNE Supervision Team highly suggest that provision of using external storage device such as HDD should be available with a respective storage size.

 

Using the menu bar, go to the Tools then look for Database. Under Database Utility, select Backup. 


Note: Admin user should be logged in the database to access this feature

Select the server name and the instance name in which were all the database can be found. 

 

Authentication should be System Authentication  Then select the database you want to backup.

 

Once done, click Next.

   


Now, select the backup folder where you want to store your database (recommended to use external storage device).

 

Filename is already provided which contains the database name and the date of the backup.

 

For a more secured backup, Protection can be done by providing Password to a Backup file.

 

When restoring a backup, password should be specified if there is a provided password when backup.


 

Before doing a backup, please make sure that there is an enough access restriction in the MS SQL folder. 

 

Please visit the default link below in order to grant access to a read and write function. 

 

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.QNEBSS\MSSQL\DATA



To restore a backup database, using the Log On screen click the Database Wizard. 


 

Then, select the restore options.



Once done, Select the Server Name. You can provide new database name if preferred then on the restore from, locate the backup file with an extension file name of .qnebak.

 

Please input password if there are any.

 

Then click restore.


 

Once the restoration is successful, watermark will show that it is executed normally.


 

You can now open the restored database in the company wizard.
